Making Video conferencing a true business tool

For over 15 years video conferencing has been touted as the next thing in business communications. When it was originally launched it was hoped that the technology would reduce business travel and expand international business but the reality has been poor quality video and high cost of installation.

A recent survey of businesses in the USA and Asia found that over 61% of users complained about quality issues with either dropped calls or low picture quality even though the actual video conferencing systems they were using were high quality.

The recent economic downturn has meant that many companies are now looking at ways to save costs and video conferencing systems are now becoming more popular once again.

In order to improve quality of communication many are looking at installing high capacity leased lines which are very expensive when they don’t need to. An alternative is to use low cost Internet bonding solutions which will users to keep costs down and at the same time experience HD video conferencing.

Gamer Widows - Look After Your Men Folk

Category: Inside Xrioshelley @ 14:16

Hi, Once again I found myself amused the other day when I was considering what to write for our Xrio blog, I decided to have a look and see if there was a term for gaming widow mothers yet since my blog some months ago about my son, but alas I haven’t started a trend but for those who did not see my last blog you can get the drift below!

Some months ago I decided to do some research to see if there were any others out there who have a member of their family so wrapped up in online gaming that they feel like a "widow" and I came across this on Wikipedia. It reads as follows:

"A gamer widow is a term for those who have a relationship with a gamer (one who plays video games, be it on a console or on the computer) who pays more attention to the game than to their partner. It is similar in concept to the football widow."

I found this amusing because it didn't even cross my mind that there was an entire network of people out there feeling just like me!

Well yes my name is Shelley Wilson and I am a gaming widow mother! My 17 year old son Luke is an online gamer (maybe I will start that self-help group!) and I hardly ever see him. However, I hear him, oh you know what I mean if you are in the same boat as me, for all you parents out there who have children who play computer games you will recognise, the ranting, the shouting, "sniper behind you", the background noise of an army of men running incessantly across cobbles! sound familiar? Yes? Well then you probably know that is a game called counter-strike and if you have heard your child shouting these terms randomly and continuously every evening you may feel the same as me? sometimes I wish he was playing some loud obtrusive music at 100 decibels instead, oh dear what am I saying! What ever happened to playing out on your bike? Whip and top, marbles, or going to the local youth club? Oh how things change. Well anyway, my son knows what he wants and how he wants it when it comes to online gaming - his clan is dedicated to their clan matches and competitions. They are always trying to improve, ping times, latency, lagging, registration speeds etc and optimising everything to get the best possible game, and luckily due to the company I work for Xrio we have more than enough bandwidth and quality for him as our products address this. So as the Sales director of Xrio Limited I decided to take my son's experience and tell others about our products which are perfectly positioned for serious online gamers, to give quality of service which prioritises their traffic above everything else and give them reduced hops etc, and it works with any broadband lines (2 or more) this product is here now so gamers everywhere have a look at it, with your help we will make this the best product in the market for you!

If you wish to share your experience or thoughts about this or provide feedback on how you would like to see this product working for gamers please feel free to leave your comments about what is most important to you.

All the very best until the next time!

Shelley

Introducing Shelley, Xrio's New Sales Director

Category: Inside Xrioshelley @ 10:58

Hi I'm Shelley Wilson the sales director at Xrio Limited, I have been here since August 2008. We manufacture our products the UBM (Unified Bandwidth Manager) range which provide bonding and link balancing solutions to businesses allowing them to increase bandwidth speeds and quality, cost effectively. Over the past twelve months we have spent a huge amount of time focusing on improving and enhancing the UBM range and we are just about to launch the new world leading UBMi range, which has a built in 2 and 4 port dsl router.

I have been working in the internet industry for around 12 years now and have worked as a director for the past seven years and although it is extremely hard work - I really enjoy it. The team here are all fantastic to work with, some of the best I have had the pleasure to work alongside and I enjoy working in Leeds as I was born here and the city is very much up-and-coming.

We have exciting growth plans for Xrio over the coming year and we hope to employ further local people which is important to us. We already employ over 20 people worldwide, mainly locally.

To be honest, social media and blogs are quite new to me and I haven't really been very active in any of them in the past, but here at Xrio we believe it is the perfect way to engage with our customers and get some useful and constructive feedback, so we can continually improve.

I am personally very excited about this blog, as up until now the only feedback we received was from either forums or when a customer sent in feedback directly. This is our way of communicating and sharing knowledge with you in an open and honest environment, we hope you like it!

We are not precious about the topics we write about in this blog as long as they are relevant to Internet in general, so if there is a specific topic that you would like us to write about please feel free to send us some details and we will do our best to cover it and offer you our opinion or advice.

Well I think that's it for now, I have managed to write my first ever blog post. I will no doubt be back soon with more news updates from inside Xrio but until then I hope you continue to enjoy reading our team blog.
